Boys rooms

So you have a boy who's not a baby anymore but still young, how can you create a space they can grow with without it being too old...

I think I may have done it here. The first thing I wanted to do was create an impact with a feature wall, there are a few ways to do it, paint decals or wallpaper. For these I have go with decals and wallpaper.

My brief for this room was sports themed and as he is a big Blues fan I have go with a blue theme, so if you are lucky enough to follow a team with cool colours you can create a room around it. So the brick wall is wallpaper, and the hanging bulbs is actually a glow in the dark sticker, I thought it was very cool. Here is the same room but with decals

I think this sort of room will room with them for years.

If your little man is a bit younger may-be this design might suit a bit better

linen

with linen like art its either something you can get first then base a room around it or try to get one to fit into the room. I Prefer to get it first because it can be hard ! It's much easier to take a pillow slip around the shops with you to try to match too. This set from Adairs is on sale reduced from $149.95 to $66.45 great saving.
So if we start again with our base room of just white furniture and a white light fitting you can pick up on all the different colours in the cover to decorate with.

Here's one for the boys
and again its on sale grab it here.

I tend to stay away from licensed covers, I do like some colour but having said that the BedT covers
come in a good range of colours, I have the grey one and they are super soft and the best bit, they do not need to be ironed after you wash them ! Some are reversible other just the one colour. So if you go for something like this add colour with a throw and some colourful cushions. Have a look here you guessed it on sale :) If you can't find the one you want Pure Zone have them too. I got mine at DFO and the King size was $30 absolute steal, the throw $14. Current season but at DFO.

starting to add some interest

So now you have your base pieces, now we can start adding some colour and interest and making your children's room fun for them. Here we are going for a gold and pink theme.

The gold dot decals come in a pack and you can put them on how ever you would like, in lines or randomly, which ever suits. These are $18.95 and will make an instant impact by creating a feature wall. Add some pink and gold art, Dancing art has been custom made and is $60 framed. The cushions are $37 each, the rug $189, the wire basket is $19 and does come in other colours. The bedside table/stool $9.95. The paper lanterns are $19.95 and are so gorgeous hung up on the wall above the bed and will make a beautiful night light, The rabbit light is so popular at the moment and is $19.95 and the white pendant a complete steal at $14.99 ! Have some have all, do it over a few weeks and you will have a new space in no time. Next I will add some linen ideas.

moving out of a cot...

So the time has come for the baby to move in the big kids room! You check out pinterest and all you favorite blogs and the pieces are so expensive, very cool, but still so expensive :( the trip to the shops has left you feeling flat, you don't think you'll ever create a cool kids room. Yes you can and it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg especially the way kids grow out of things. I'm going to show you how to create a room without having to spend a tonne and still be on trend. If you are handy at all and can follow some you tube tutorials even better! garlands, pom poms are small things that make a big impact and you can make them yourself. So first lets start with some pieces.
White or timber are good for base pieces but do keep in mind each store has their own "white" so they may not all perfectly match when you get them home, same with timber, I have done it and just keep them apart so it doesn't bug me so much. So for a base this will set you back $361.00 that doesnt include a mattress. You can make it cheaper again by getting a chair like this

and spray painting it yourself you will save $19. Not a bad start considering the beds that look similar start at $550. Next I will dress the room and show you how you can create an on trend look.
